I moved to Sydney from Canada in 1970 where I began studies in art, then to Darwin where I completed my BA(Fine Arts)Degree. Since moving to Fremantle in 1994 I have developed a new technique using fine silica sand with acrylics on canvas. This mixed media is selected to express my responses to the textures and patterns of the Australian landscape and seascape.

My recent travel to China has influenced my painting experience as I regard balancing the form - moving into space and out of space. The Tao approach of ' what we can not see balanced with what we can see' fascinates me. The element of chance and accident also provides subjective feelings of inner serenity for me. I aim to create a sense of calm or is it an escapism from the inundation of every day ' noise'.

There is no attempt to impose any specific ideas upon the viewers' conscious mind. ' The less one says about the painting the better - a visual experience of tranquility'.
